Legal
Terms and Conditions
The terms that apply when you use the Legal Smriti app and website and learn on a course.
Under review
These terms are being reviewed and may be updated. If you have a question about it, contact us.
Please read these terms before you register. They describe how Legal Smriti works today; where something is still being decided, they say so.
About these terms
The Legal Smriti app and website are operated by Legal Smriti. In these terms, “Legal Smriti”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that operator, and “you” means the person using the app or the website.
Our office address and other contact details are given under Contact and grievances.
These terms apply whenever you use the Legal Smriti app or website. Please read them with our Privacy Policy, Refund and Cancellation Policy and Disclaimer.
Education, not legal advice
Legal Smriti provides legal education. It does not provide legal advice or legal representation.
Our courses, classes, assignments, reviews, templates and other content are for learning. They aren’t advice on your particular situation, and using Legal Smriti doesn’t create a lawyer–client relationship. Our Disclaimer explains this in more detail.
Using this website
You can use the information pages of this website to learn about Legal Smriti and its courses without an account.
We keep the course details and fees on these pages in line with the app, but the price that applies to you is the one shown in the app or on the website before you pay.
Please don’t try to disrupt the website, get around its security or copy its content in bulk with automated tools.
Links to other websites, such as official exam or government sites, are there for convenience. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for what they contain.
Your account
- Registration is free. You register as a Student, an Advocate or an Aspirant and choose one course to start with. The same account works in the app and on the website.
- Who can register. You need to be 16 or older, with a 10-digit Indian mobile number and a postal address in India. If you’re under 18, please also read Young learners in our Privacy Policy.
- Accurate details. Give accurate details and keep them up to date. Your study material and certificate are posted to the address in your profile, so check it before they’re dispatched.
- One account. Each email address and each mobile number can be used for only one account. Your account is for your own use: please don’t share it, or your sign-in details, with anyone else.
- Fixed details. Your category, age and gender can’t be changed after you register.
- Your password. Keep it private. You’re responsible for what happens on your account. If you think someone else has used it, reset your password and tell us.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile, in the app or on the website. Our Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what is kept.
Enrolling in a course
- Each course shows its price, its number of days and what’s included before you pay.
- Access to a paid course begins once your payment is confirmed. Drafting Assistance is free and opens as soon as you add it.
- You can add more courses later, up to five unfinished courses at a time. A paid course you add stays locked until its payment is confirmed.
- You can remove a course you’ve added only while it’s unpaid, no payment for it is in progress, you’ve made no progress in it, nothing has been dispatched for it and it isn’t your only course.
How days open
Each course runs day by day, on your own schedule:
- Day 1 opens on the day your access begins: when your payment is confirmed, or when you add a free course.
- After that, a new day opens each calendar day, India time. Drafting Assistance has no fixed number of days; its days are added as they’re published.
- Days don’t wait for you to finish the previous day. Days that have opened stay open, and access to a course has no end date.
- Each day has a lesson and an assignment, and can include a live class. Work through each day’s steps in the app or on the website.
Live classes and replays
- Live classes run at fixed times set by the course team. The app and the website show each class’s time, and you can join only while the class is live.
- Live classes are held on an external meeting platform, which opens when you join. That platform’s own terms apply while you use it.
- Joining while the class is live records your attendance.
- If you miss a live class, you can watch its replay up to 3 times. Replays are only for classes you missed, not for classes you attended. Legal Smriti sets the number of replays, and the app shows how many you have left.
- Each replay you start counts, even if you stop watching early. Replays don’t expire: you can use them whenever you like after the class, while the recording is available.
- Replays play only in the Legal Smriti app or on the website, and course videos can’t be downloaded.
- A day without a live class has no replay; its assignment opens straight away.
Assignments and reviews
- The day’s assignment opens after you attend the live class or start its replay. If the day has no live class, or the class is cancelled, it opens straight away.
- Answer every question before you submit. Each answer can be up to 20,000 characters.
- You submit each assignment once, and a submitted assignment can’t be edited, so check your answers first. Drafts are saved only on the device you’re using.
- A reviewer reads your answers and publishes marks, a summary and suggestions, and you’re notified when your feedback is ready. We don’t promise a set time for reviews.
- You complete the day by acknowledging your feedback with the “Complete Day” button, for example “Complete Day 4”. A day counts as complete only once you’ve done this.
- Marks and suggestions are educational feedback on your answers. They aren’t a prediction or a guarantee of any exam result, and they aren’t legal advice.
Study material and certificates
- Where a course includes study material, it is posted to the address in your profile. You can follow its dispatch status in your Profile.
- A printed completion certificate is posted to the same address once you’ve completed every day of a course that includes one. Courses that include a certificate list it among their inclusions. Drafting Assistance has no fixed length and doesn’t include one.
- You can change your address in your profile until your material or certificate has been dispatched.
- Delivery times depend on the courier or postal service.
- A certificate records that you completed a Legal Smriti course; our Disclaimer explains what it does and doesn’t mean.
Fees and payments
- Course fees are shown in Indian rupees and include applicable taxes.
- A course fee is a one-time payment. It isn’t a subscription, and there are no recurring charges.
- Access to a paid course begins once your payment is confirmed. Until then, the course stays locked.
- A payment unlocks only the course it was made for, and the course can’t be changed after payment.
- If you pay through a payment provider, its own terms also apply to the payment, and Legal Smriti never receives your financial details.
- Where the app shows a receipt, it is a record of your payment, not a tax invoice.
- Refunds and cancellations are covered by our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
Content and intellectual property
Lessons, live classes and their recordings, assignments, reviews, templates and the other material on Legal Smriti are provided for your own learning. Legal Smriti, or the people who created it, own the rights in this material, apart from official texts such as bare acts that are reproduced from public sources.
You may not:
- record, capture, download or copy course content, live classes or replays;
- share, sell, publish or redistribute course content, or upload it anywhere else;
- share live-class links, or let anyone else learn through your account.
Drafting templates
- Courses that include drafting templates, such as Drafting Assistance, let you unlock templates up to a free allowance, currently 3 per account. The app shows how many you have left.
- A template you’ve unlocked can be opened again at any time without using another one.
- You may use the templates you unlock to prepare documents for your own studies and professional work. Please don’t sell, publish or share the template files themselves.
- Templates are general formats for learning. Before you use one, adapt it to your facts and check it against the current law; see our Disclaimer.
Your conduct
When you use Legal Smriti, please:
- use it only for your own learning;
- submit your own work in assignments;
- be respectful to faculty, reviewers, staff and other learners in classes, sessions and messages;
- not post or send anything unlawful, abusive or misleading, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights;
- not try to get around the app’s limits, protections or payment checks, or to reach information that isn’t yours;
- not use automated tools to copy, scrape or overload the service.
Changes to the service
Some features are introduced gradually; the app's Explore section shows what is available on your account.
If we cancel a live class, the day shows that the class was cancelled, and we’ll update the day if the class is rescheduled. The day’s assignment then opens straight away.
Courses, features and class times can change over time, and the app and website show the current details.
Closing or suspending an account
You can close your account at any time by deleting it from Profile, in the app or on the website. Deletion takes effect straight away and can’t be undone, and your access to your courses ends. Our Refund and Cancellation Policy explains what this means for payments.
Our rules for suspending or closing an account that breaks these terms are being finalised and will be set out here.
Limitation of liability
We work to keep Legal Smriti accurate and available, but we can’t promise that it will always be available without interruption, or that its content will always be complete, current and free of errors.
Legal Smriti is a learning service. Decisions you make about your studies, your exams, your practice or any legal matter are your own. For advice on a particular matter, consult a qualified advocate.
Nothing on this page limits any rights you have under applicable law that can’t be excluded or limited.
Governing law and disputes
If you have a concern about Legal Smriti, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve it.
The law that governs these terms, and the courts that will hear any dispute, will be set out here after legal review.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service changes. Each update changes the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
